McQueen S/S 2012 online collection continued

Continuing from my last post here is another design from the S/S 2012 on line collection which i was inspired by it is reflective of the materials, design and colour palettes of the catwalk collection but available for immediate purchase.

shown above modelled with a white background to keep the focus on the piece, which is a dress of thigh length with ruffle and layering detailing to the skirt, bust and around the neckline, all in light weight fabrics such as prints silks, laces, with cut out and open sections around the bust and neckline.
this pieces is a soft feminine design which as an almost dream like essence reflective of the theme of undersea life from the catwalk collection. the very feminine silhouette inspires me as it is modern yet has a luxurious quality to it that i also wish to create in my own designs and creation of texture from just the fabrics also interests me as it shows a way to give texture without adding beads, sequins and embroidered details.

The piece is made from layers of printed silk and lace all light weight fabrics on a fitted silhouette which would have required the use of advanced pattern cutting skills and knowledge to make the fabrics hang softly on the form but also match the print on the garment correctly. The print would have required a CAD application to create them and print them onto the fabrics. this piece would also have need basic skills such as machine and hand sewing, dart application, pattern cutting and making, and manipulation to create the silhouette and design to hang and stick out as required.
The piece is produces in soft pastel pink tones through out complimenting each other and the repetition of carefully placed ruffling and layered detailing on the garment which is care full not to distract from. again these also compliment the textural detailing which are found mainly in the fabrics and the way they are used on the garment design to compliment each aspect rather than distract.
This piece is really interesting to me as a designer as it shows how intricate a design can reflecting the theme in many ways from silhouette to colour palette without having to be overly complicated or extreme, this is just another way that a designer has interpreted their design in fabrics which i feel is just as valuable as the very overly complicated yet showstopping designs that were also featured in the collection. a point which i feel as designers it is important to show and create to inspire other in their own work in that simpler pieces can also be affective. this particularly interests me as i like to design both simpler and more elaborate and complicated pieces, it shows that even the simpler design can be challenging.
